Religions such as Judaism, Christianity and Islam concern themselves with topics related to the Messiah, although this is less prominent in Islam as it is in the first two. The use of the word Messiah in both the Quran and the Hadiths created a set of thoughts in Islamic tradition. Consequently, Islamic scholars stated many different views about topics related to the Messiah as mentioned in the Quran and Hadiths, as well as giving their views on how scholars themselves have speculated about this topic in the history of Islamic thought. Many Islamic scholars, when referencing the Hadiths, accepted the belief Jesus will eventually come as the Messiah at the end of the world, although there have also been a number who have rejected this view over the centuries. According to them, the idea that Jesus was the Messiah is ultimately the result of Christian influence on Muslim thinkers. The given reason for this is that there is no clear verse in the Quran that talks about the coming of Jesus. On the other hand, the narrations in the Hadiths related to the coming of Jesus are ‘Hadith Ahad,’ and according to many Islamic scholars, they are not taken as references in issues related to core Islamic beliefs. Despite all this, however, a diverse range of views has accumulated on the word ‘Messiah’ and issues related to it over the course of Islamic thought. These thoughts are widespread among Shia and Sufi, and even among Sunni groups.
