How to Understand the Victory of Chanakkale and How to Tell It? Some Methological Determinations

Abstract

More than a century has passed since the 1915 Chanakkale Victory, which produced supremely important results with regard to Turkish and World history. However, considering the yearly commemorations and the publications, I think that there are some methodological deficiencies in the ways to understand and tell Chanakkale Wars and Victory. In this study, some new methodological points that contribute to understand Chanakkale Wars and Victory properly and to realize what that kind of victory means in the frame of Turkish Islamic civilisation and the messages related with the present and future times they bear have been presented to the readers. It is natural that some additions can be made to the methodological determinations we will point at hereinafter; however, we think that the methodological points we present will significantly contribute to the realization of the objectives and desired conducts expected from history education in teaching 1915 Chanakkale Victory.
