Abstract

Village Institutes were distinctive institutions of Turkey that envisaged solving the matters of literacy, education and training, and rural development all together. The process that was started with the courses of instructors was developed with a big momentum in a short time. After graduation, the students accepted from villages were assigned to the villages as teachers. It was aimed that they would be trained not only as a teacher but also as an individual to generate solutions to all economic, social, cultural etc. problems of the villagers. Although important success was acquired in this field, different problems were encountered in reaching the targeted aim. However, many teachers graduate of the Village Institute, who were prominent with their individual efforts made successful studies in the villages.
