Turkish Image in Hafız Ibrahim’s Poems

Abstract

Egypt always picked strong nations’ curiosity through history because its lands connect with Africa. Recently, France and England invaded Egypt and seized it from the Ottomans. Far from Istanbul, new Western philosophies spread across Egypt under the invasion. Egyptian intellectuals had opinions about Caliphate along with Western and Nationalism too. Among the people that were losing the influence of the Caliphate and the Ottoman Empire under England’s invasion, Hafiz Ibrahim shouted opinions about the Caliphate. He loved Turks because they kept Muslims together and expressed his love through poems. He mentioned Turks’ dignity and them being a strong nation. He appreciated their fight against the West and protection of the East. During the discussion about Ottoman’s ruler ship of Egypt, he mentioned the Ottomans and Caliphate in his poems, pointing out that Ottoman’s are worthy of the Caliphate. “An Egyptian Poet’s view of Turks” forms the main topic of our work.
